This image has been circulating social media sights for some time. It has been on Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter just to name a few. I thought of this image when I was reading Fausto-Sterling’s article, “Thinking About Homosexuality”. In her article, she discusses the historian, Boswell. Boswell states that homosexuality is, in fact, nature- not nurture. Which is why I think that this image resonates so well with the article. This image is telling us that his son cannot be fixed, simply because there is nothing broken.
The man in the image is a “man’s man”. He fixes machines, and is in overalls, which is usually worn by working class men. Coincidentally, this is usually the type of person that one would imagine opposing homosexuality. He is telling us that his son is something that does not need to be fixed, because it is the way that nature has made him. Not something that needs to be fixed, because it is not broken.
